Agrimarketing : May 2008 Special Supplement
helped us prepare for the future and has brought us to this point. Now that we are here, there are some unknowns, but Rick handles them very well. It is important to recog- nize that doing your job well does not mean it gets any easier. As a talented speaker, one of Rick’s many strengths is his skill in deliver- ing NCGA’s message to other orga- nizations. He is frequently asked to speak at meetings and conferences throughout the world and serves as an excellent NCGA representative. STATE OF IOWA Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey Des Moines, IA I’ve known and worked with Rick Tolman for nearly 20 years and can’t think of anyone more deserving of receiving the “Agri- Business Leader of the Year” Award. He has dedicated his life’s work to the U.S. farmer. I had the opportunity to work first hand with Rick when I was President of NCGA and believe his consistent and visionary leadership is vital in an organization like NCGA that changes its president every year. As a result, he has helped make NCGA a widely respected and influ- ential organization in Washington, D.C., and across the nation. I believe that much of Rick’s suc- cess is because he so clearly reflects the character of the farmers he repre- sents. He is hard working, thought- ful and ready to give credit others for his accomplishments. Rick also makes sure the organi- zation has the right priorities and is working on the issues that can have the greatest impact for corn farmers. NATIONAL RESOURCES DEFENSE COUNCIL Sr. Policy Analyst Nathanael Greene Washington, D.C. As a Senior Policy Analyst working on renewable energy policy for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), I have had the pleasure of working with Rick Tolman for nearly three years. On panels, in negotiations, and many long phone calls, we have dis- cussed and debated the first renewable fuel standard, the sec- ond, and lots of biofuels and agri- cultural policy in between. Rick is a true leader. He’s a strong advocate for the corn grow- ers’ interests but takes a long-term view of these interests and the chal- lenges the corn growers and our country face. While there are many policy details and some big issues that NRDC and NCGA disagree on, Rick’s forthright and open approach has helped narrow this gap. May 2008 ¦ AgriMarketing 13 Congratulations Rick Tolman 2008 NAMA AgriBusiness Leader of the Year For his many accomplishments, John Deere salutes Rick Tolman, NAMA’s 2008 AgriBusiness Leader of the Year. As CEO of the National Corn Growers Association, Rick has led the organization to new levels of success by harvesting more potential from corn and promoting new markets for this golden grain around the world. Thank you Rick for your tremendous leadership in the agricultural industry. We wish both you and the NCGA continued success in the future.
