Agrimarketing : May 2008 Special Supplement
Editor’s note: We invited prominent leaders from a wide spectrum of organizations to share their insights about the National Corn Grower Association’s (NCGA) Rick Tolman. U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE Under Secretary for Rural Development Tom Dorr Washington, D.C. In naming Rick Tolman as “Agri- business Leader of the Year,” NAMA is right on target. This is a time of rapid change and enormous oppor- tunity for both agriculture and rural America. Rick is a visionary on the potential of biofuels, biomass, and rural economic development, and he’s tireless in carrying the messages of producers to external audiences. NCGA is well ahead of the curve on these issues, and Rick’s strategic guidance and vision have played a big role in its continuing leadership. As we’ve addressed many of these same questions at USDA Rural Development, Rick has been a steady and generous partner. We were especially pleased with his support for USDA’s groundbreaking Advanc- ing Renewable Energy Conference in October, 2006, and the Washington International Renewable Energy Conference earlier this year. In this era of exciting new fron- tiers, rural America and agriculture are indeed fortunate to have the exemplary leadership of Rick Tolman. NATIONAL CORN GROWERS ASSOCIATION Chairman Ken McCauley White Cloud, KS Rick is always looking for ways to do things better. As a true leader, he is constantly seeking innova- tions and solu- tions to improve our organization. Rick understands that NCGA is energized by its grass- roots, whose active involvement lends credibility to the organization. He knows that each leader, director, grower and staff member plays a dif- ferent part, and Rick’s ability to direct those parts is impressive. For over seven years, he has 2008 NAMA AGRIBUSINESS LEADER OF THE YEAR PROMINENT LEADERS COMMENT ON RICK TOLMAN AND NCGA BASF is proud to partner with the NCGA to create and increase opportunities for corn growers: Academic Excellence in Agriculture Scholarship National Corn Yield Contest Commodity Classic ©2008 BASF Corporation.
