16 Agri Marketing June 2012 ASSOCIATION NEWS Daily Updates on www.AgriMarketing.com Charlotte Hebebrand joins the International Fertilizer Industry Assn (IFA) as Dir Gen'l. She was with the International Food and Agricultural Trade Policy Council (IPC) and had been with the European Commission and the Brookings Institution. She will replace Luc Maene, IFA's current Director Gen'l, upon his retirement at the end of the year. Lockheed Martin continues its support of the National 4-H Council's programs with a three- year, $1.5 million gift expanding the 4-H Robotics program. Lockheed Martin will also sponsor the 2012, 2013 and 2014 4-H National Youth Science Day. The Agrievolution Alliance is formed by seven agriculture equipment manufacturing associations based in Brazil, Europe, France, India, Italy, North America and Turkey. The Alliance will facilitate collaboration and cooperation on a global basis within the ag equipment manufacturing industry. The Pork Checkoff introduces a new "Certified Swine Manager" program developed with the U.S. Pork Center of Excellence. First courses will be offered this fall. The program will promote the industry's ideal of continuous improvement and further its "We Care" ethical principles. In conjunction with this, the new program will define a core body of knowledge needed to achieve standards in pork production, establish educational standards, provide resources to acquire knowledge and offer certification to validate knowledge gained and work accomplished. Donnie Taylor joins the Ag Retailers Assn (ARA) as VP of Membership & Corporate Relations. He was with Chemtura AgroSolutions and has been with Valent, CDMS, United Suppliers and Syngenta. He will work from ARA's Washington, DC, headquarters. Holli Cederholm joins the Organic Seed Growers and Trade Assn (OSGATA) as Gen'l Mgr. She is a founder of Proud Peasant Farm and was with Fedco, an OSGATA business member, in Clinton, ME. Marri Carrow is promoted to Dir of Comms at the U.S. Grains Council. She has also worked for the Minnesota Corn Growers Assn. The Cattlemen's Beef Board beef checkoff hosts a steak immersion and educational event at the Culinary Institute of America, St. Helena, CA. More than 30 major U.S. foodservice operators, major retail chains and top U.S. packers attended. Edwin Elfmann joins the American Bankers Assn as Sr Legislative Rep responsible for legislation impacting agriculture and rural banking, along with a variety of other financial policy topics. He was with the office of Rep. Steve King (R-IA) and has been with the National Corn Growers Assn. A National Pork Producers Council survey indicates that currently only 17% of sows spend a portion of gestation in open pens. When asked about future plans, operations indicated that up to 24% of their sows would be in open pens within two years. This year, the following food providers have announced intentions to not purchase pork produced in gestation stalls: Cracker Barrel, McDonald's, Denny's, Safeway, Tim Horton's and Wendy's. Domino Pizza announced it has rejected the idea. The National FFA Organization announces plans for an "FFA Rally to Fight Hunger" at the 2012 National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis. The goal is to package one million meals, half of which will be distributed in Indianapolis. Janae Prewitt joins the National Agri-Marketing Assn (NAMA) as Information Svs Coordinator. She has been with Applebee's and Saladino Mechanical. This year 's PrecisionAg Awards of Excellence winners include: Crop Adviser/Entrepreneur Award: Darryl Starr, Advanced Ag Solutions, Lafayette, IN; Educator/Researcher Award: Terry Brase, Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids, IA; and Farmer Award: David Cox, Ayr, Queensland, Australia. The recipients will be honored at a special luncheon ceremony during the International Conference on Precision Agriculture on July 17, in Indianapolis and are sponsored by the PrecisionAg Institute and its supporting partners.
