Chris Hoegemeyer, Operations Mgr for Hoegemeyer Hybrids (r) is presented the "Above and Beyond" award in recognition of the company's support of an employee who serves in the Nebraska Nat'l Guard. Presenting the award is the person who nominated the company, Sergeant First Class Matt Thoene. He is employed by Western Integrated Seed, a family owned company recently spun off from Hoegemeyer Hybrids. USDA releases its annual report "Expenditures on Children by Families" finding that a middle- income family with a child born in 2011 can expect to spend about $234,900 for food, shelter and other necessities to raise that child over the next 17 years. This represents a 3.5% increase from 2010. Expenses for transportation, child care, education and food saw the largest percentage increases related to child rearing from 2010. There were smaller increases in housing, clothing, health care and miscellaneous expenses on a child during the same period. Behlen Manufacturing Co. is named the Midwest International Trade Assn's "Exporter of the Year." Presenting the award (l to r) is Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman to TR Raimondo, Chmn and Coach. Last year Behlen shipped $18.5 million in exports to 38 countries. Since 1990 Behlen has exported to more than 85 countries.
