Michael Ellis is promoted to Publisher of Rural Lifestyle Dealer properties. American Small Farm magazine is acquired by Back 40 Group, Inc., Hartshorn, MO. Renamed American Small Farm & Country Life, the magazine will be exclusively web- based and expand to 11 issues per year. Paul Berg, formerly with Small Farm Today magazine heads up the division. Douglas Wagner is promoted Pres of Canada's Outdoor Shows. He co-founded the shows with Ginty Jocius in 1993, and is also serving as Pres of the Farm Show Council. The Colorado Agriculture News Network merges into the BARN Network (Brian Allmer Radio Network). In addition to daily national and state ag news, Allmer also produces daily market reports and a weekend half hour ag program. The program will assemble small groups of top farmers and ranchers to act as reciprocal advi- sory boards for one another. CommodityUPDATE, in partnership with Farm Journal Media, launches Rich Media Messaging, a service delivering charts, graphics, audio and richly designed commercial messages to the phones of it subscribers. Farm Journal announces a newly compiled database of commercial and private applicators, primarily serving agriculture. The file includes 84,222 records identified as "commercial," plus 174,549 "private" applicators. In addition, more than 100,000 growers will be linked to their primary ag chem retailer within the FarmReach database by early spring. Beef Today launches Cattle-Exchange.com, a web site connecting cattle buyers and sellers. The site allows sellers to input free listings, or pay and post enhanced listings, and includes custom search options such as breed choices and precise geography. AM Lawton Greener Ellis IN MEMORIAM Jim Kanter, 68, passed away on January 18 from cancer. He graduated from Peru State College and received his master 's degree from Adams State in Alamosa, CO. He first worked as a high school teacher and coach. He began his career in publishing at Nebraska Farmer Co. as a salesman, then Sls Mgr, VP and Publisher, retiring in 2007. He was instrumental in beginning Husker Harvest Days. AM Shawn Etheridge joins Vance Publishing Corp. as VP and Publishing Dir and oversees the company's produce division. He has worked for Cool Creek Solutions and Penton Media. Scott Oler joins the company as Dir of Sales for its Protein Group, which includes Dairy Herd Management, Drovers, Pork and Bovine Veterinarian. He had been Mktg Mgr at DeLaval. Jenna Jordan joins the firm as Nat'l Accts Mgr for its Protein Group. She has worked for Educational Concepts and Walco Int'l/DVM Resources. Vance also announces the launch of the Midwest Produce Conference & Expo to be held April 13-15, 2012 in Chicago.
