Agrimarketing : November December 2006
November/December 2006 AgriMarketing 31 Growers, researchers, consultants and retailers from across the Cotton Belt had a hand in testing AVICTA Complete Pak. "Before this product was even launched, so many people were able to see the results in research trials and demonstration plots that it gave us a solid footing in the marketplace after just one year," says Steve Russell, Crop Manager, Syngenta Seed Care. Dr. Charles Overstreet, Extension Nematologist with Louisiana State University, tested AVICTA Complete Pak extensively. "It looked really good in our trials. It gave us fantastic thrip control and we saw good stands, healthy vigor and uniform plants." Convenience is what drives consultant Wes Briggs of Bainbridge, GA, to recommend the product to growers in his region. "The biggest problem with the traditional in- furrow treatments is that you have to check the hoppers to be sure they haven't stopped up on any of the rows," Briggs says. "The best thing about AVICTA Complete Pak is that you won't have to stop and check anything. The seed already has your nematicide, insecticide and fungi- cide right where you need it. It's really a cost- and time- saving technology." The feelings of improved convenience are echoed across the Cotton Belt. Larry Barnes, a consultant from Lubbock, TX, sees AVICTA Complete Pak as a big advantage for cot- ton growers. "The seed comes treated so the grower doesn't have to deal with handling chemicals. It saves time during planting when time is of the essence. All the grower has to do is open the bag and pour it in the planter." Charles Rose of Nashville, NC, is one of the first growers who got to see the product in action when he planted a test plot in 2005. During 2006, his second year of using AVICTA Complete Pak, he is still high on the product's convenience. "It really speeds the planting process. I think having the nematicide, insecticide and fungicide right on your seed is a benefit. I plan on using it again in 2007." Tucker Miller from Drew, MS, consults on 20,000 acres of cotton and has worked with the product for the past two years. "AVICTA Complete Pak is a good tool for cotton producers. While sampling treated cotton, I have seen amazing control of root-knot nematodes. If growers are going to cut their seeding rate, they need the full package --- a nematicide, insecticide and a fungicide. AVICTA Complete Pak has all three covered."
