He was with the National Association of Wheat Growers and prior with the Oregon Wheat Growers League. Farm Foundation announces the top entry in its "30-Year Challenge" competition is the paper written by Dr. William C. Motes entitled "Three Decades Hence-Thinking About Global Agricultural Resource Allocation Policies." Motes, who submitted the entry as a private individual, is Chief Economist at Informa Economics. It and the other six category winners' papers can viewed at www.farmfoundation.org. The Soil and Water Conservation Society names Jim Gulliford as Executive Dir. He was with the EPA, and prior with the Division of Soil Conservation, Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship. The American Assoc of Bovine Practitioners elects as its 2009- 10 President Dr. Roger Saltman, Group Dir of U.S. Cattle Veterinary Operations for Pfizer Animal Health. Elected Pres-elect is Dr. Christine Navarre, Extension Veterinarian with Louisiana State Agriculture Center. Elected Vice Pres is Dr. Brian Gerloff a dairy veterinarian located in Marengo, IL. The American Seed Trade Association (ASTA) launches its "Beyond the Seed" web site. Its a resource for program ambassadors, ASTA members, staff, partner organizations and has a public section which delves deeper into the three areas that are the foundation for the program --- Commitment, Innovation and Performance. ASTA names Anna Burks as Mgr/Int'l & Domestic Programs. She was with the Association of General Contractors of America. Julie Douglas joins the association as its Dir of Comms. She most recently was with Purdue University and has been with the Indiana State Dept of Agriculture. The National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA) names Todd Johnson as its VP/ Owner-Member Services. Currently with the Kansas Beef Council, he will join NCBA in January. He has also worked for the Kansas Livestock Association and the American Hereford Association. The Animal Agriculture Alliance (Alliance) announces the launch of "College Aggies Online," a competi- tion for college students interested in agriculture. It is a joint venture of the Alliance and the American National CattleWomen, Inc. that provides resources to students on key issues in order to help them better utilize tools such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter to share agriculture's story. CropLife America elects its new board of directors: Chmn Bill Buckner, Bayer CropScience; Immediate Past Chmn Eric Wintemute, American Chemical Vanguard; Vice Chmn John Chrosniak, DuPont Crop Protection; Vern Hawkins, Syngenta Crop Protection, and Dan Vradenburg, Wilbur-Ellis Company. Treas. John Rabby, Makhteshim Agan of North America. CropLife America (CLA) will file a petition with the Supreme Court to review the National Cotton Council v. EPA Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals decision. At stake is the EPA requiring that commercial pesticide applications to, over and around waterways will require National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permits. The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) appoints J. Clark Mica Dir of Gov't Relations. He had served as the Acting Deputy Ass't Sec'y for intergovernmental relations with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Iowa Pork Producers Association announces Brad Magg has won the 2009 Best Breaded Pork Tenderloin Contest. Magg, along with his family, owns and operates Goldie's Ice Cream Shoppe in Prairie City, IA, (located just east of Des Moines on Hwy 163), and will receive a check for $500, a plaque and statewide publicity. The American Angus Association now posts recent Angus sale information on its web site, www.angus.org. Eric Grant is promoted Dir/PR for the association. He has worked for the National Cattlemen's Association, and has written for Farm Journal/Beef Today, American Cowboy, Range, and Angus Journal. Crystal Young is appointed ass't Dir/PR, Shelia Stannard is named Dir/Activities & Events and Crystal Albers is appointed Ass't Dir of Comms and Web site Editor. The American Soybean Association celebrates its 90th Anniversary. A group of soybean farmers and extension workers founded the association in 1920 in order to promote soybeans as a viable crop and increase its profit opportunities. Southern States Cooperative and AGWAY show their support of 4-H by implementing the "Clovers All Over" fundraising campaign in many of their stores, offering shoppers the opportunity to purchase paper clovers in the shape of the 4-H emblem during National 4-H Week and the week after.
