Valmont is presented the Presidential "E Star" Award for its increasing exports of pivot and linear-move irri- gation equipment around the world. U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke presented the award to Valmont's Group President of global irrigation Leonard Adams at a ceremony during the National District Export Council Conference in Washington, D.C. KMG Chemicals, Inc. announces a strategic partnership with AgriLabs who will sell market and provide technical support to KMG's insecticide product line. POET releases a new ethanol co- product, named Inviz which is the company's brand of zein, a biodegradable, low-nutrient protein found in corn. It can be used as a gum base or in films, packaging, adhesives, coatings and glazes. Terra Industries signs an agreement to purchase a 50% interest in Agrium's Carseland, AB, nitrogen production assets and certain U.S. assets for approximately $250 million. The Carseland facility has the capacity to produce approxi- mately 590,000 short tons of gross ammonia and approximately 750,000 short tons of granular urea per year. EPA announces it will ban the use of carbofuran, trade name Furadan, for the use on food crops after December 31, 2009. "We are concerned that impor- tant scientific information has been overlooked by the agency in this decision," NCGA Pres Darrin Ihnen says. "The use of carbofuran has diminished over the past decade since the introduction of biotechnol- ogy, but it remains an important product for rescue treatment in refuge acres."
