He is the former USDA Undersecretary for Rural Devel- opment and has served as a member of the board of directors of the Chicago Federal Reserve Bank and the Iowa Board of Regents. Before joining USDA, he was the President of a family farm and agribusiness company. The National Pork Board enlists football’s all-time leading rusher, Emmitt Smith, as a spokesperson for its “Pork Recipe Playoffs” promo- tion. One grand prize winner with the best “grilling game” will win a trip for four to Miami, FL, to tailgate with Smith and attend the 2010 Super Bowl. The National FFA Organization names Dr. W. Dwight Armstrong as COO. The founder and principal of JDA Consulting, LLC, he was formerly with Provimi and Akey Inc., a professor at North Carolina State University, and an American Soybean Assoc. visiting lec- turer in Europe. The American Soybean Association (ASA) redesigns its web site, www.SoyGrowers.com. The new design incorporates an expanded menu system with direct access to over 60 primary informa- tion, program and resource pages. The Global Harvest Initiative (GHI) names William G. Lesher as Exec Dir. He was part- ner in the Wash- ington, D.C. - based, Lesher, Russell & Bar- ron consulting firm and prior was Ass’t Sec’y Agriculture for Economics at USDA. GHI is a venture of ADM, DuPont, John Deere and Monsanto to encourage policy and research to double output by 2050 and close the gap between food production and demand. The American Agricultural Editors Association (AAEA) elects Karen Simon as Pres of its Board of Directors for 2009-2010. She is Dir/Comms for the Iowa Soybean Association. Elected Pres-Elect is Steve Fairchild of Today’s Farmer magazine. Also elected to three-year terms on the board were Steve Werblow and Holly Spangler, Prairie Farmer. The National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) launches NCGA Markets NOW!, a new membership benefit that provides access to market updates through mobile phone messages. Susan Powers joins the associa- tion as Comms Mgr for events and other marketing communications initiatives.
